Many of the paper mills that Lewis Paper does business with have supplied recycled papers since the 1980's. Today there is a large variety of
eco-friendly papers to select from and Lewis Paper carries a full portfolio of certified and environmentally friendly papers to supply all your printing needs.

Did you know that by using 24 reams of 500 sheets 8.5” x 11” of 100% post-consumer paper instead of virgin paper, you save the equivalent of 1 tree and reduce air emissions by 65kg?

FSC - Forest Stewardship Council
An international non-profit organization devoted to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests.  FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally viable way.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative
SFI Inc. is a fully independent, charitable organization dedicated to promoting sustained forest management.  They work with conservation groups, local communities, resource professionals, landowners, and countless other organizations and individuals who share the passion for responsible forest management.
Recycled Content
Paper made from pulp with varying percentages of recycled waste paper and virgin wood fiber. Recycled content can vary from 10% to 100% post consumer. Using more post consumer waste paper helps reduce landfill use and causes the fiber to be givennew life as another product. 100% post consumer contains wood fiber that has been recovered entirely from paper used by consumers through recycling programs.

Green Seal
Certification mark of the Green Seal organization specifying that the paper:
1. Contains at least 30% post consumer recycled fiber
— or —
2. Is manufactured without chlorine or chlorine compounds.

Green-E
Certification used by the Center for Resource Solutions identifying products made with renewable energy including, but not limited to, wind power, solar power, geothermal, low-impact hydropower, and biomass.
Processed Chlorine Free
Certification mark of the Chlorine Free Products Association (CFPA) identifying that no chlorine or chlorine compounds were used in the paper making process and that the product contains a minimum of 30% post consumer fiber.

Elemental Chlorine Free
Elemental chlorine fee applies to paper processed without elemental chlorine but with a chlorine derivative such as chlorine dioxide. Although less harmful than using chlorine, it is still considerably worse than totally chlorine free.

Biogas
Biogas is another renewable source of energy. It is produced by the decomposition of waste in a landfill site. Once collected, it can generate steam used in the manufacturing of paper, which will also reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
Carbon Neutral
The Carbon Footprint calculates the quantity of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the different steps of a product’s manufacturing process.  Measurement of the carbon emissions allows manufacturers to find ways to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions.  Greenhouse gas emissions are produced by the natural cycle of the planet, as well as by certain human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation.
